How to convert JPG to WebP

JPG and WebP for photos
Both JPG and WebP can encode photographs. WebP is a modern browser-supported target, while the resulting size depends on the source, image detail, dimensions, and selected quality.
WebP quality is a trade-off
The control uses a 10–100 quality range with a default of 90. It is a real encoder setting, not a promise of a fixed file size or visual result.
EXIF orientation is applied once
When a JPEG carries an EXIF orientation tag, PicRecast applies that orientation to the output pixels before encoding WebP. The output does not depend on the original tag, and other metadata is not guaranteed.
The output size is measured, not promised
WebP can be smaller or larger than a JPG depending on image content and quality. PicRecast shows the actual source and output bytes after conversion.
Limitations
This tool handles one still JPG or JPEG at a time. It does not resize, improve quality, remove backgrounds, preserve every metadata field, or guarantee a particular compression ratio.
Private browser processing
Validation, orientation handling, decoding, and WebP encoding stay in your browser. The image is not sent to a conversion API, provider, or storage service.

What WebP quality should I choose?
90 is a practical starting point. Lower values can use fewer bytes with more visible compression; higher values can retain more detail and may use more bytes.
Does WebP keep my JPEG orientation?
The visual orientation is baked into the output pixels once. The output does not rely on the original EXIF orientation tag.
Is my JPEG uploaded?
