PNG Compressor
Add PNG files, choose adaptive Smart or pixel-exact Lossless compression, compare actual sizes, and download PNGs or a ZIP. Files stay in your browser.
Processing and ZIP creation stay in this browser. Smart canvas re-encoding does not preserve source EXIF, ICC, or other metadata. Lossless OxiPNG may remove nonessential metadata; do not rely on either mode to preserve all metadata. Animated PNG is rejected.
How to compress PNG images
- Add up to 12 valid static PNG images by picker or drag and drop.
- Choose a Smart preset and optional target size, or switch to Lossless for unchanged decoded pixels.
- Compress sequentially, compare measured sizes and previews, then download each PNG or one ZIP.
Smart vs Lossless PNG compression
Smart uses adaptive palette reduction based on the image’s color distribution, then PNG encoding and OxiPNG optimization; colors can change. Lossless runs OxiPNG on the original PNG and preserves every decoded RGBA pixel. Dimensions stay unchanged by default; Smart can optionally resize when you request it. Neither mode promises savings.
File size vs image quality
Smart trades some color precision for a more compressible PNG while keeping the output in PNG format. Inspect the before-and-after preview. There is no PNG quality percentage: browser PNG quality arguments do not control this reduction.
PNG transparency is preserved
Both modes retain fully and partly transparent areas. Smart preserves 8-bit alpha samples but uses the browser canvas, so higher-bit-depth alpha precision may be reduced; Lossless keeps the complete decoded pixel data unchanged.
Both modes keep the original dimensions by default. Smart can resize only when you opt in; Lossless never resizes. Lossless keeps decoded pixels unchanged but may strip ancillary metadata. Smart canvas re-encoding can remove EXIF, ICC profiles, and other metadata. Smart converts 16-bit PNG samples to browser canvas 8-bit samples.
PNG Compressor FAQ
How do I compress a PNG?
Add static PNG files, choose Smart or Lossless, compress, compare each actual output size and preview, then download a PNG or ZIP.
Does PNG compression reduce quality?
Smart is lossy: it reduces RGB color precision and can visibly change colors. Lossless keeps every decoded RGBA pixel unchanged.
What is the difference between Smart and Lossless compression?
Smart reduces colors and then optimizes the PNG, usually allowing stronger reduction. Lossless uses OxiPNG on the original PNG without changing decoded pixels. Neither mode guarantees savings.
More questions
Will transparency be preserved?
Yes. Both modes retain transparency, including partial transparency. Smart uses the browser canvas and may reduce higher-bit-depth alpha precision; Lossless preserves decoded pixels exactly.
Will image dimensions change?
By default, no. Lossless always keeps dimensions. Smart can resize only when you turn off Keep original dimensions or allow resizing for a target.
Why did my PNG barely shrink?
The original may already be optimized or have little redundant color data. Check measured sizes. Smart offers an optional target size and reports Target not reached when necessary; Reduce Image Size in KB remains available for dedicated fixed-size workflows.
Is my PNG uploaded?
No. Image bytes stay in your browser and are not sent to PicRecast or another image-processing service.
