Reduce Image Size in KB

Set a maximum KB or MB size for each JPG, PNG, or WebP. Add images, choose a target, and download verified results.

All processing and ZIP creation stay in your browser. Re-encoding may remove EXIF, ICC, XMP, and camera metadata; already-under-target originals retain their exact bytes and metadata.

How to reduce image size in KB

Add JPG, PNG, or static WebP images, select a maximum size for each image, choose Meet target or Keep dimensions, then compare the actual output and download.

What “100 KB or less” means

100 KB is a ceiling of 100,000 bytes, not a request for exactly 100,000 bytes. A smaller valid file already meets the limit.

Quality first

For JPEG and WebP, the tool measures actual encoded candidates and searches quality at the original dimensions first. PNG searches measured adaptive color palettes.

File size and image dimensions

KB measures encoded file bytes. Width and height measure pixels. They are different constraints.

Meet target or Keep dimensions

Meet target can reduce dimensions if necessary. Keep dimensions searches compression settings only and may report Target not reached.

Image size FAQ

How do I reduce an image to a specific KB size?

Add images, choose the KB or MB maximum, select a mode, and compress. Check the actual output bytes before downloading.

Does 100 KB mean exactly 100,000 bytes?

No. It means 100,000 bytes or less.

What if my image is already under the target?

The original file is kept byte for byte, including its metadata and dimensions.

More questions
Will PicRecast resize my image?

Meet target may reduce dimensions only when compression at the original size cannot meet the ceiling.

How do I prevent resizing?

Choose Keep dimensions before processing.

Why can a target be unreachable?

Some images cannot fit an extremely small ceiling even at the strongest settings or allowed dimensions. The result is marked Target not reached.

Does PicRecast change the image format?

No. JPG/JPEG stays JPEG, PNG stays PNG, and static WebP stays WebP.

How does JPEG compression reach a target?

MozJPEG measures candidate encodes at different quality values; Meet target can then try smaller proportional dimensions.

How does PNG reach a target?

Smart adaptive color quantization and OxiPNG produce measured candidates; Meet target may also reduce dimensions.

How does WebP reach a target?

libwebp measures lossy quality candidates and can proportionally downsize when authorized by Meet target.

Will transparency remain?

PNG and WebP transparency is preserved during processing.

Will metadata remain?

Re-encoding may remove metadata. An already-under-target original is not re-encoded and retains its exact bytes.

Are images uploaded?

No. The image processing and ZIP creation run locally in your browser.

Can I process multiple images at once?

Yes. Add up to 20 mixed JPG, PNG, and static WebP images within a 128 MiB source limit.

Does the same target apply to every image?

Yes. The chosen ceiling is applied separately to each image in the queue.
