What “20KB or less” means
20KB is a maximum of 20,000 decimal bytes, not an exact output size. A 17KB result meets the limit.
Why fewer pixels can look better
Very low JPEG or WebP quality at a huge size may add visible artifacts. Recommended mode tests a moderate quality floor, then proportionally reduces dimensions only if needed. Visual quality still depends on the image.
Keep original dimensions
This mode never resizes. It searches the full JPEG or WebP quality range or original-size PNG candidates; it may report 20KB not reached.

Does 20KB mean exactly 20,000 bytes?
No. The output must be at or below 20,000 bytes.
Will my image always be 20KB or less?
No. Some images cannot reach the ceiling within the available settings or dimension limits. Such results are marked 20KB not reached.
Why did the dimensions become smaller?
Recommended mode first tries the starting dimensions; if they cannot meet 20KB at a usable quality floor, it may proportionally reduce them.

Can I keep the original dimensions?
Yes. Select Keep original dimensions before processing. The file may then remain above 20KB.
Why can a smaller image look better than a full-size 20KB image?
Extreme codec compression can create blockiness or blur. A smaller image encoded at a less extreme setting may be easier to use, though this depends on the content.
What quality will PicRecast use?
The tool searches actual encoded candidates and shows the selected quality for JPEG and WebP in each result. There is no quality slider to guess before processing.
Does PicRecast change PNG to JPG?
No. This tool keeps each source format. Use Image Converter if you need JPG output.
Can PNG reach 20KB?
Sometimes. Lossless optimization, adaptive palette reduction, and optional proportional downsizing are measured; complex PNG images may still exceed 20KB.
Will WebP transparency remain?
Yes. Static WebP alpha is retained, and PNG transparency remains available.
What if my image is already under 20KB?
The original file is returned byte for byte, with its dimensions and metadata unchanged.
What if my form also requires specific width and height?
Check that requirement separately and use Image Resizer for exact dimensions. The optional maximum longest edge is only an upper bound.
Is metadata preserved?
An unchanged original keeps metadata. Re-encoding can remove EXIF, ICC, XMP, and other camera metadata.
