What “100KB or less” means
100KB is a maximum of 100,000 decimal bytes, not an exact output size. A 92KB result reaches the target.
Why quality is searched before dimensions
Recommended tests encoded JPEG or WebP quality at the starting dimensions first. It reduces dimensions only when the file cannot fit within 100KB at a reasonable quality.
Keep original dimensions
This mode never changes pixel width or height. It searches the full JPEG/WebP quality range or original-size PNG palettes, and may report 100KB not reached.

Does 100KB mean exactly 100,000 bytes?
No. Success means the actual output is 100,000 bytes or less.
Will every image reach 100KB?
No. Some images remain above 100KB within the available quality, palette, or dimension limits. The result is clearly marked not reached.
What happens if my image is already under 100KB?
The original file is used byte for byte. Its metadata and dimensions stay unchanged.

Recommended first tries the starting dimensions. It may proportionally downsize only when the file cannot fit at a reasonable quality. Keep original dimensions never resizes.
How do I keep the original dimensions?
Select Keep original dimensions before processing. Some files may then remain above 100KB.
Why is 100KB less restrictive than 20KB or 50KB?
It provides more bytes for detail, colors, or pixels. The actual result still depends on the source.
What quality will PicRecast use?
It searches real encodings automatically and reports the final JPEG or WebP quality. There is no pre-processing quality slider.
Does PicRecast change formats?
No. JPEG stays JPEG, PNG stays PNG, and static WebP stays WebP. Use Image Converter when you need a different format.
Can PNG reach 100KB without losing many colors?
Sometimes. The tool first tries lossless optimization, then measures adaptive palette candidates. The chosen result depends on the source and may still lose colors.
Does WebP transparency remain?
Yes. Static WebP alpha is retained, and PNG transparency remains available.
What if a form also requires exact pixel dimensions?
