Does conversion improve quality?
No. The converter does not add detail or remove JPEG artifacts. It avoids a second lossy encoding by writing the decoded visual pixels to PNG.
Why can PNG be larger than JPG?
PNG may be substantially larger, especially for photographs. This tool shows the source and output bytes and their difference without promising a smaller file.

Yes. .jpg and .jpeg are filename extensions for the same JPEG image format.

Does JPG to PNG improve image quality?
No. PNG losslessly stores the decoded JPEG pixels, including artifacts already present; it cannot restore lost detail.
Will converting JPG to PNG make the background transparent?
No. JPEG has no alpha channel. The PNG remains fully opaque and this tool does not remove backgrounds.
Why is the PNG larger than the JPG?
Lossless PNG encoding can use substantially more bytes than lossy JPEG, particularly for photographs.
Are EXIF metadata preserved?
Not guaranteed. Orientation is applied to pixels, but other EXIF, ICC, XMP, and camera metadata may be discarded.
