How to reduce image size to a custom target

  1. Choose one supported image and enter a KB or MB target.
  2. Select Strict target or Keep dimensions, then keep or explicitly change the format.
  3. Run the bounded local search and verify the exact output bytes before downloading.

A target you control

Use decimal units: 1 KB is 1,000 bytes and 1 MB is 1,000,000 bytes. The exact integer-byte target is shown before processing.

Strict versus Keep dimensions

Strict may reduce dimensions after quality reaches its safe minimum. Keep dimensions never resizes and labels an above-target result honestly.

Keep format or change it explicitly

The source format is the default. JPG and WebP use real quality searches; PNG uses lossless OxiPNG and optional dimension reduction in Strict mode.

Bounded, truthful search

At most 32 candidates are encoded. Very small targets can be unreachable because formats and minimum dimensions have real overhead.

Local image processing

Image bytes, names, dimensions, and target settings are not sent to an API or stored persistently.

How are KB and MB calculated?

PicRecast uses decimal units: 1 KB = 1,000 bytes and 1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes, rounded to the nearest whole byte.

Will Strict mode crop my image?

No. It may reduce pixel dimensions while preserving aspect ratio, but never crops or stretches.

Will PicRecast change formats automatically?

No. A format change happens only after you explicitly choose JPG, PNG, or WebP.

Is the image uploaded?

No. Validation, candidate encoding, selection, verification, preview, and download stay in the browser.
