How to convert AVIF to JPG

AVIF vs JPG
AVIF can offer modern compression, alpha, HDR, wide color, and high bit depth. JPG is a widely compatible lossy format without transparency; conversion does not restore or improve source detail.
Browser AVIF support
This tool uses native browser decoding rather than a server or bundled codec. A cached, known-valid offline AVIF probe is decoded before user conversion; unsupported browsers receive a clear error.
Transparency and background
JPEG cannot store alpha. Fully and partly transparent AVIF pixels are composited over white, black, or your custom color before encoding; opaque pixels are not changed by the background choice.
Static AVIF vs AVIF sequence
Only still AVIF is supported. The AVIF container brands are checked and any avis sequence brand is rejected before decode, with no silent first-frame export.
HDR and wide color gamut
Browser Canvas and JPEG encoding may tone-map HDR or wide-gamut content to SDR and reduce 10- or 12-bit sources. ICC, NCLX, EXIF, XMP, and other metadata are not guaranteed to remain.
JPEG quality
Quality accepts integers from 10 to 100 and defaults to 90. Higher values may increase size, and changing the slider does not encode until you press Convert.
File-size behavior
JPG output may be smaller or larger than the AVIF depending on image content and quality. PicRecast reports the real result and makes no compression guarantee.
Limitations
This tool handles one static AVIF at a time. It does not support sequences, batch work, resize, crop, compression targets, metadata preservation, server conversion, or quality enhancement.
Privacy
The selected AVIF and generated JPG stay in your browser. There is no image upload, conversion API, third-party image request, AI call, login requirement, payment flow, or quota call.
Frequently asked questions
What if my browser cannot decode AVIF?
The offline capability probe fails with an AVIF-not-supported message and no result or download is created.
What happens to transparent AVIF pixels?
They are composited over the selected white, black, or custom background because JPG has no alpha channel.
Can I convert an AVIF image sequence?
No. avis sequence brands are rejected before decode; the tool never silently exports only the first frame.
Are HDR, wide color, and metadata preserved?
Not guaranteed. Browser decoding may tone-map or convert color and bit depth, while JPEG re-encoding may omit ICC, NCLX, EXIF, XMP, and other metadata.
Does JPG conversion improve quality?
No. JPEG is lossy, and conversion cannot recreate detail already absent from the AVIF.
Is my AVIF uploaded?
No. Validation, capability detection, decoding, compositing, JPEG encoding, preview, and download all run locally.
