Browser AVIF support
The tool uses native browser AVIF decoding and an offline capability probe. If the browser cannot decode AVIF, it shows a clear error and does not upload the file or use a server fallback.
Decoded transparency stays transparent
Transparent and semi-transparent pixels decoded from the AVIF are written to the PNG alpha channel. No white or black background is composited. PNG encoding is lossless for the decoded pixel result.

Does converting AVIF to PNG improve image quality?
No. PNG losslessly stores the browser-decoded pixels but cannot restore detail that was lost in a lossy AVIF.
Why is the PNG larger than the AVIF?
PNG is lossless for the decoded pixels and is often less compact than AVIF. A larger file is normal.
Can I convert animated AVIF to PNG?
No. AVIF sequences and animated AVIF are rejected rather than converted as a silent first frame.
What happens to HDR or wide-gamut AVIF?
Browser decoding and Canvas may tone-map HDR, convert color spaces, or reduce bit depth. Exact preservation is not guaranteed.
What if my browser cannot decode AVIF?
The offline capability probe reports that AVIF is unsupported. No result or download is created, and the file is not uploaded.
Are metadata preserved?
Not guaranteed. The re-encoded PNG may omit ICC, NCLX, EXIF, XMP, and other source metadata.
